“It is working.” Liverpool forward confident about the club’s transfer strategy

Diogo Jota backs Liverpool transfer policy

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota believes that the Reds’ recruitment approach is along the right lines regardless of Liverpool’s sluggish start to the season. The Reds remain winless from their opening three games in the league; drawing two and losing one.

Most recently, Liverpool lost 1-2 against rivals Manchester United in what was a shock loss for the Reds. Even with the abysmal results during the first few game-weeks of the league campaign, Liverpool’s No 20 is convinced with the transfer strategy of the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo) recently, Jota talked about the club “capturing the best young players.” The club this summer, have signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica (£85m), Fabio Carvalho from Fulham(£5m+add-ons) and Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen(£6.5m).

Nunez caught the attention of Europe’s elite in last season’s UEFA Champions League, scoring six goals from 10 CL games

“I have the feeling that it is working. They are capturing the best young players, building and rebuilding again. I think you can notice that we have a lot of good young players now so everything seems to be in place. It is working well.

Even with the Portuguese international believing that things are on the right track, the club desperately needs to sign a new midfielder before the conclusion of the transfer window. There are multiple injury situations pertaining to the middle of the pitch for the club, and Naby Keita’s latest injury adds to the list. In terms of forwards though, the club seems to have a good depth.

Even with three front-line players (Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino) departing the club earlier in the summer window, there will now exists strong and healthy competition for a place in the Starting XI among Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Nunez and Luis Diaz. The 25-year-old also spoke about how important

everyone’s fitness is to compete on all fronts.

“For this season, we want it to be the same. Especially when we want to go for everything again like we did last year. We know we will need everyone. Everyone will be important.”

Jota injury update

A hamstring injury picked during International Friendlies has sidelined Jota for quite some time now, having not featured throughout pre-season and the opening three fixtures of the league.

The 25-year-old is getting closer to training with the team, and Liverpool would want the Portuguese to return to full fitness as soon as possible as he is a very integral part of the club’s frontline. In 85 appearances across all season for the Merseysiders, the former Wolverhampton forward has accumulated 34 goals and nine assists.

The club lacked a figure like him in the fixture against Crystal Palace, as after Darwin Nunez’s red card, there was no attacking option on the bench for Jurgen Klopp to bring on and try to win the game. The ex-Atletico Madrid forward recently penned down a long-term deal with the Reds, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Liverpool would hope for Jota to train with the rest of the squad promptly given his importance to the Reds’ front-line, bringing a new dynamic to Liverpool’s style of play which is not easy to break through.
