Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp takes a dig at confusing Man United defending

Liverpool have had a dismal start to the season with two points out of the first three matches and currently sit 16th in the Premier League. This is a bad image for any Liverpool side and more so under our current manager Jurgen Klopp, who has seen his team dominate the past few seasons.

The latest defeat came in the hands of our arch-rivals Manchester United, who showed more energy and tempo throughout the game and albeit had less possession. They were also more clinical in the final third.

Speaking to Viaplay (h/t Mirror), Jurgen Klopp reflected on the defeat and aimed a dig at United’s defending.

“I think there were really confusing defensive situations where nobody of them [United’s defenders] knew anymore really where [Liverpool’s attackers] were, but there were enough legs there so they could defend it. And we couldn’t score.”

Jurgen Klopp was furious on the touchline with his team down by two goals and although Mohammad Salah put one back, it proved to be a consolation. In all honesty, our attackers really did not trouble the United back line that much and were able to see out the game.

While Klopp might be right that we had openings, the fact also remains that the players on the field came up short massively. United were rightfully there for the taking but we have nobody but ourselves to blame for not putting them to the sword.

It took time for us to start playing our football at Old Trafford while United were quick off the blocks and Jurgen Klopp is right in claiming that we had more chances and on another day could have been victorious.

Therefore, it would be wise for the manager and the team to learn from the mistakes made in the first three encounters and move ahead with an aim of improving our own performances, rather than criticising other teams’.
