Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson spotted in England training post injury

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson started training with the England team in a video posted by Football Daily via Twitter (h/t Liverpool Echo). The 32-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in the Reds’ 2-1 home victory against Newcastle United on 1st September.

Hendo recovered from the injury ahead of schedule and saw himself set to return to full team training a few days ago. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Hendo are the only Liverpool representatives in Gareth Southgate’s 28-man squad for the UEFA Nation League Fixtures.

Due to injury issues, Kalvin Phillips withdrew from the squad, resulting in the addition of the former Sunderland midfielder. The team will travel to Italy for a game on 24th September followed by the Three Lions hosting Germany at Wembley on 27th September.

Hendo for England

The team consists of only four midfielders apart from Hendo. Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount, Declan Rice and James Ward-Prowse are the other central midfielders Southgate has inducted for these two fixtures.

Henderson could feature in the games subject to match fitness given the undersupply of midfielders in the squad. Moreover, in a squad with 12 defenders, it would have been optimal to see a greater number of midfielders included.

The Liverpool skipper’s last appearance for England came in a 2-1 win vs Switzerland. Hendo played the entire 90 minutes in the game held in March earlier this year. Additionally, the midfielder has also captained the national side on two occasions.

As earlier mentioned, Henderson could be vital in the two UEFA Nation League fixtures coming up as his experience could come in handy against two strong sides full of accomplished stars, Italy and Germany.

After the international break, Hendo would be expected to lead the Reds in their next league fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion on 1st October.
