US sports business website Sportico (h/t Liverpool Echo) looks at the Top 10 highest-paid footballers in the world including their salary and endorsements. The only Liverpool player in the Top 10, in fact, top five, is Mohamed Salah.
Mohamed Salah has been a revelation for the Reds since joining the club in 2017 from AS Roma. making 160 goals and 66 assists in 263 appearances
across all competitions. The Reds have not had such a prolific goal-scorer in the recent past.Coming into this season, Salah penned down a long-term contract with the Reds keeping him at the club until the summer of 2025. The 2021/22 season was one of Salah’s best, scoring at a will. He won the Premier League Golden Boot for the season scoring 23 goals from 35 games. Additionally, he won the playmaker award as well, racking up 13 assists.
According to the report from Sportico (h/t Liverpool Echo), Salah is the World’s fifth highest earner with total earnings of $39.5m for the year. Out of that, the Egyptian earned $24.5m from his contract with the Merseyside club. Apart from that, the 30-year-old earned $15m from his endorsement deals.
Salah’s new deal with the Reds earns him a total sum of £350,000/- per week, incentives added separately. However, this season has not been the best for Salah, as he has not been in the best of touches. Hopefully, he comes back to the usual standard he has set for himself sooner than later.
Besides Salah, the list also features Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. as the top 4 earners. The only Premier League players on the list apart from the Egyptian King are Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne, who are ranked eighth and ninth respectively.
Liverpool breaking the bank for a player as capable as Salah comes as a no-brainer. No player has scored more goals than the Egyptian since his return to the Premier League in Liverpool colours.
The Reds are known for their controlled spending habits, and it has been beneficial for Liverpool until now. Hopefully, unlike other Premier League rivals, the Merseysiders shall succeed without having to spend loads of money.
