“Without a shadow of a doubt”- Liverpool legend named as the greatest Premier League player in his position

Steven Gerrard named as the best Premier League midfielder of all time over Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes

Former Tottenham Hotspur player Jamie O’Hara has named Steven Gerrard as the “greatest midfielder” the Premier League has ever seen. The current Aston Villa manager is one of the best in the world in his position.

In a Liverpool career spanning 17 years, Stevie featured for the Reds 710 times, scoring 186 goals and racking up 153 assists. The former Liverpool skipper won everything but the Premier League. Additionally, he was full-time captain of the Three Lions under Roy Hogdson, from 2010 until his retirement.

Very recently in 2021, Gerrard was named to the Premier League Hall of Fame

. He returned to the Premier League in the same year, but as a manager for Midlands outfit Aston Villa.
Steven Gerrard is an icon for Liverpool and has countless memorable moments in the UEFA Champions League.

Speaking of the current lot of midfielders including Kevin de Bruyne, O’Hara stated that even with the Belgian doing extraordinary things at the moment, the tag of the Premier League’s greatest midfielder shall remain with the Liverpool icon.

“He carried the club on his back for how many years? De Bruyne is an amazing player. He will go down as one of the greats in the Premier League, but not the greatest. The greatest midfielder the Premier League has ever seen is Steven Gerrard. Without a shadow of a doubt.”

The ‘Golden Generation’ of England had the likes of Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard and Stevie, but the former Tottenham midfielder believes that Gerrard “was on another planet” to any other player Jamie played with.

The fact that Gerrard had to virtually carry a Liverpool team, which was probably up there when compared to the Reds’ rivals to say the least, and had the Merseysiders compete is in fact a huge achievement. The Scouser, in Scholes’ United or Lampard’s Chelsea, could have racked up almost the same amount of goals and assists.

Liverpool’s current number 8 Naby Keita with the club’s greatest number 8 Steven Gerrard.

It is, therefore, not shocking that pundits often rank him as one of the best midfielders in the world. His time as a manager has also been good. Winning the Glasgow Rangers their first Premiership title in ten years. At Aston Villa though, it is a mixed bag.

Gerrard did everything you would want from your midfielder. He could score, assist, tackle, and put in a shift. Moreover, he was a real leader and stepped up in the big moments.

It’s a shame that the club couldn’t deliver him a Premier League despite coming close on a couple of occasions, the most painful one being in the 2013/14 campaign.
