Liverpool star Andrew Robertson talks about the dream to end his career at Celtic

Andy Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017 for a fee of merely £8m. 232 appearances, eight goals and 55 assists, later, the Premier League and Champions League winner has revealed a long-standing dream of his.

Speaking on the Currie Club Podcast on Spotify, Liverpool’s left-back revealed that he always ‘dreamed’ of playing for The Celts in his prime, but also added that his ultimate aim of retiring from his playing career at Anfield has not changed.

In fact, Robbo had a part of Scottish giants as a youth prospect until 2009. He moved to Queen’s Park after he saw himself out of Celtic at the U-15 level. A move to Dundee United and Hull City within five years of joining The Spiders saw him rise to prominence.

Andy said on the podcast that he considers a move to Parkhead whenever he has the opportunity to watch the Celts play.

“Every time I watch Celtic, I consider it. When you watch them and see a packed Celtic Park, as a fan you always have that dream, that’s a fact, but you have to weigh up whether it’s realistic or not.”

Obviously, for Robbo, the wish to play for his boyhood club is as natural as it could be for any other player. But realistically, he would want to spend the prime of his career at the highest level.

Robbo’s current contract with the Reds lasts until 2026, about when he’ll be 32 years old. Even though there is still a lot of time to go, it is mere speculation whether Andy can maintain the same level he is playing on for a long time or would want to move to his boyhood club. With that being said, he has made it clear that he is focused on the present only.

“I’m very much a person who lives in the moment. I don’t look too far ahead and I don’t often look back. There will be a time for that.”

Even though 32 is not old, the amount of effort Andy puts into each game could see it taking a toll on him come his thirties. Currently, Robbo is nursing a knee injury in Liverpool’s UCL match against Napoli and could see a return from the injury layoff after the international break.
