William Gallas wants Arsenal to target Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold

Ahead of the Premier League game against Arsenal this weekend, Liverpool have had a pretty poor start to the season and currently sit ninth in the Premier League with many key players not performing up to the standard set.

With a disappointing draw against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, it is crucial that we get maximum points in our next away league game against Arsenal, who have been in excellent form under manager Mikel Arteta and sit atop the league table currently.

It has been the standard of performance on a revitalised Arsenal team that has really caught the eye making the next game even tougher for us.

Speaking to Genting Casino (h/t Metro), former Arsenal defender William Gallas predicted Arsenal to win against a struggling Liverpool side.

Gallas insists that Liverpool’s slump form is mainly down to a weak defence and asks his former club to target right-back, Trent-Alexander Arnold, who has seen a fair share of criticism in recent months for his performances.

“At the back, they have been really, really poor. [Trent] Alexander-Arnold is struggling. The problem with Liverpool is that almost every goal is coming from Alexander-Arnold’s side of the pitch.

His first job is to defend very well. How many goals have Liverpool conceded from his mistakes?”

Trent’s defensive struggles have been known for some time and although it can be argued that the team is struggling altogether, it is fair to say that Trent’s contributions when defending have been really poor.

With his nurturing into the role of a chief creator for the team, he has somehow diverted away from his main responsibilities as a fullback, which is to defend.

There are no doubts about the Englishman’s rare talent and ability which has earned him applause from all around, he does need to work further on the defensive side of his game for him to become world-class.

His wonderful freekick against Rangers FC in the UEFA Champions League would surely boost his confidence coming to the Emirates on the weekend. We need a huge performance from the fullback in our bid to reduce the eleven-point deficit between the two teams.
