Speaking to The Times (Subscription Required) [h/t h/t Liverpool Echo], Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott talked about Mohamed Salah and the Egyptian’s impact on the youngster on various fronts, especially Harvey’s diet routine.
Ever since his loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in the 2020/21 season, Harvey is seen as someone who could be Liverpool’s future. In 31 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, he has two goals and two assists.
Elliott, who predominantly plays right-wing, has been putting the hard yards in the right side of central midfield for the club with Salah running down the wing. It is natural that Salah would take Harvey under his wing, as the Egyptian is one of the best in his position and Harvey is on a learning curve.
Speaking about the former Roma winger’s impact on his diet plan, Elliott said the following:
“They all want me to do well and are giving me pointers, for example Mo with the bread. I have taken it on board.”
“My breakfast is mainly bread with beans or avocado. I did eat bread in the morning, but that was white bread. Now I have changed it to brown bread which is a lot healthier.”
“He is not someone to say, ‘You need to be doing this, you need to be doing that.’ He is more of a guy who helps you out and gives you pointers, and you go away and think about it.”
With Salah taking the effort to point out minute details such as Elliott’s breakfast, it is understandable that Mo wants what is best for the youngster so that he could go on to achieve his potential.
Learning from one of the best also is something that Harvey would want to do and incorporate these things into his life in his own journey of becoming the best version of himself. With his performances so far this season, Elliott has come across as tremendously promising – winning the August and September Player of the Month at Liverpool.
With Harvey earning shouts terming him the future of Liverpool, it is crucial that he has the right players around him to guide him on his path. The Reds’ squad has multiple senior players including the likes of Salah, Jordan Henderson and James Milner, who offer so much more for youngsters than just footballing knowhow.
With him being one of the best performers for Liverpool this season, manager Jurgen Klopp could turn to him this weekend against an in-form Arsenal side. Elliott, who played out wide during his stint with Fulham, has been used centrally by Klopp since last season.
The England U21 international was used prominently by Klopp as a number eight especially during the opening weeks when we had a rampant injury crisis in the centre of the park. It is certainly a position he has adapted to well despite a lack of defensive nous needed
to play there. He could start from the bench as Jordan Henderson, who was brilliant in our recent 2-0 win against Rangers, and Thiago Alcantara would be expected to start against Mikel Arteta’s side.
