Transfer News: Liverpool ‘will return’ to make a move for 20-year-old Belgian star

Liverpool reignite interest in Belgium’s Euro 2020 star Jeremy Doku

As per Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool ‘will return’ for Stade Rennais’ 20-year-old Belgian winger Jeremy Doku. The midfielder was sought after by Liverpool in the past as well.

The former Anderlecht winger has 62 appearances for Rennais wherein has scored four goals and has six assists. The highlight of his career would be the Euro 2020 campaign wherein he was arguably one of the top players for Belgium.

He has two goals and three assists in ten appearances for his national team. We did sign Luis Diaz but with no natural backup in the left-wing position for the Colombian and the fact that mainstay Sadio Mane left the club earlier this summer, that is one position the Reds would need to strengthen.

Also involved in the race to sign him are Arsenal and Chelsea. With his pace and dribbling abilities, Doku can suit either wing and provide the gaffer with a ‘super-sub’ until he is ready to start games.

At merely 20, a long career lies ahead for the winger. A move to one of Europe’s elite clubs, possibly Liverpool cannot be subject to a preclude so early. Moreover, his versatility to play in attacking midfield could also give Klopp the thought of experimenting with a new formation.

Moreover, with a low centre of gravity, he could make use of his pace and agility to get past defenders. The difference an explosive player can make in games, especially off the bench, is certainly something to think about.

At Liverpool, he can be in a team where the spotlight shines on him a bit more. The Reds are one of the biggest clubs in World football and it could be a beneficial move for Doku in that regard.

Moreover, with Salah 30 years old, he would know that there could be a potential future vacancy to play in a position at Liverpool where Mane and the Egyptian attacker became two of the best wingers in the world.

Even though a midfielder in this situation is ideal, the idea of adding Doku to the ranks comes across as pretty smart for the Reds. The way he has been performing, it is almost guaranteed that his career will see an upward graph. Hopefully, Liverpool make their move for the player before his prices see a surge.
