Double blow for Liverpool as key defensive duo are set for a spell on the sidelines

Liverpool defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip are out injured for three weeks

It seems like there is no end to injury problems at Liverpool this season with news coming out of BBC that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip are confirmed to be out for a minimum of three weeks, after suffering knocks during the 3-2 loss to Arsenal.

The match at the Emirates was not only devastating for the fact that we lost the chance to bridge the gap between the top, which now stands at a heavy fourteen-point difference.

More than the result, it was first an injury to Luis Diaz

suffered during the game and is now expected to be out until the World Cup. Now Trent and Matip are also set to watch from the sidelines in what is wretched news for Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool’s season has started in the worst manner possible and that can be attributed majorly to injuries suffered at the beginning of the season. Key players such as Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantara, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson have all suffered their own misfortunes.

Just when everyone thought that things would get better with players returning to the fold, the team has now suffered from another mini-crisis of sorts.

Diaz will miss ten games after sustaining a knee issue while Trent is suffering from an ankle injury. Matip, who recently returned to the fold, is out again for three weeks with a calf issue sustained during the same match.

It feels like Jurgen Klopp’s seventh-season curse is already taking shape with the manager not able to catch a break with constant injuries and underwhelming performances. But then if there is anyone capable of turning it around, it is the German tactician.

More Liverpool News

Coming off a spectacular season where we were competing for an unprecedented quadruple, it was expected by many that Liverpool would have given a proper challenge to the title once more.

Rather the season has taken a surprising turn and we currently sit tenth in the league and way off the standards set in the past. With champions Manchester City up next, suddenly an exciting encounter between the two sides in the past feels more like a game of damage limitation for us this time around.
