Liverpool star Curtis Jones opens up about his latest injury and talks about his future plans

Curtis Jones got his first start in the Premier League this season for Liverpool when he started against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Even though the Reds lost the match 1-0, it was refreshing to see the Liverpool academy graduate come off an injury layoff and perform for the club.

It was an unusual start for Jones as he played on the left side of the attack for a brief while instead of his natural role of a central midfielder which he eventually transitioned into. The 21-year-old last featured for the Reds against Manchester City in the FA Community Shield game, which Liverpool won 3-1.

The strangest part of the injury due to which Jones was sitting out is the fact that after the initial injury, he suffered from a stress reaction which kept him out for a prolonged period. Fortunately, though, he could make the lineup at a time when Liverpool needs depth in terms of midfield.

Here is what Jones told via the Liverpool Echo talking about his injury:

“It was a stress response. It was basically swelling in the bone. But if you carry on with it, it can go to a fracture and then a break. It was the first time I’d had anything like that, to be honest. Touch wood this doesn’t change, but I’m a kid who never gets injured. I don’t pull hamstrings, quads, calves, stuff like that.”

Curtis is back from injury

The Liverpool academy graduate has 77 appearances for the Reds and has scored eight goals and got 10 assists. He has missed a total of nine games this season because of the said injury and would hope to stay fit for the rest of the season.

Even last season, he sat out 14 games because of an eye injury. For someone who manages to keep fit for a considerable amount of time, Curtis since his time at the club has had only freaky injuries.

He came on for a brief while against West Ham United as well. Curtis was on for thirty minutes, his first of the season. He would hope to be part of the lineup against Ajax next week in the UEFA Champions League and get more minutes and put on a good game.

Liverpool, with his return from injury, have more midfielders to choose from on the roster. It, however, comes down to how well they perform for the Reds to get desired results.
