“I couldn’t even fathom”- USMNT icon urges Liverpool not to sack Jurgen Klopp after poor domestic run

Brad Freidel urges Liverpool not to sack manager Jurgen Klopp

Speaking to Fair Betting Sides (h/t Liverpool Echo), USMNT icon Brad Freidel has urged Liverpool to keep their faith in Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have had a very poor and surprising start to the 2021/22 season with the team currently ninth in the league and on a bad run of form with consecutive league losses to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

Many factors have been credited for a fall of such a team who was competing for an unprecedented quadruple just last season. Injuries to key players, loss of form of key players with slow acclimatisation of new signings have also contributed to the current state of the club.

With hopes of the title race vanishing a few weeks before, now the prospect of a top-four finish and a UEFA Champions League qualification also looks bleak.

With the team going through a tough period, there were some arguments on whether Jurgen Klopp is indeed the right man to help us sail through the crisis or if it is time for FSG to start looking elsewhere.

USMNT icon Brad Freidel, who made 31 appearances for Liverpool was asked about his opinion on the matter. He has urged the Liverpool owners to not even consider thinking about taking such a step.

 “I couldn’t even fathom Klopp leaving. I don’t even understand why that is a talking point at this moment in time. Him leaving should not be spoken of, nor do I think there should be any talks at the boardroom level about him leaving.

Just because they’ve had a difficult start to the season does not mean that you should start looking for a replacement. I would like to see him there for many, many years to come to be honest with you.”

Freidel is making sense of why many are even considering talking about replacing Klopp, a manager who has in his tenure changed the fortunes of the club and made Liverpool one of Europe’s most dominant teams.

With the way our rivals have showcased their spending ability, our hands are tied with stringent ownership and it is an accepted fact that we cannot compete financially on the same level.

Yet Klopp has managed to bring the best out of each of his players over the past years and laid down a solid foundation on which continuous success can be aimed at.

Premier League is one of the toughest leagues in the world and it is very reasonable that a top team can go through stressful periods but it does not imply that a change of leadership is needed.

Sacking Klopp would be throwing water on seven years of hard work by the team and staff. The only way forward is to be hopeful that the German would take another trick out of his hat and take us out of the mess.

Past records prove that Klopp is definitely the right person that can help us move past this crisis. However he will need help off the field as the club is desperately in need of a rebuild.
