Teddy Sherringham rates Liverpool’s chances of sign Jude Bellingham against Manchester City and Man United

Speaking to BoyleSports (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur player Teddy Sheringham believes Pep Guardiola’s contract extension at Manchester City means they offer a more lucrative prospect for Jude Bellingham to join them.

Bellingham is quickly becoming the name on everyone’s lips following his impressive displays with Borussia Dortmund and replicating the same with the England national team.

Many predict the player to have a big money move come the summer transfer window, with many top clubs including rivals Manchester City competing for his signature.

Liverpool have been notably interested in Bellingham. That is especially the case with our injury-prone midfield this season impacting our performance in the league. Jordan Henderson and Thiago are notably into their 30s while James Milner is no longer worthy of becoming a regular starter for us.

However, with the manner in which the season has derailed and the uncertainty over the club’s ownership, many believe that if the situation persists it would be tough to convince the teenager to join the club.

Sheringham, who made 418 (Transfermarkt) appearances, spoke on the clubs interested in Bellingham and believes Guardiola’s contract extension at City now provides our rivals with an upper hand over the signing.

“Bellingham had been told to get forward and obviously had the legs to get back. He would be a brilliant signing for any ‘big six’ Premier League club. He’s not a carbon copy of Steven Gerrard but they’re similar in the fact they both drive forward from deep.”

“In terms of which club he suits, Man United will want him but City and Liverpool are way ahead of them at the moment. City looks the most likely, particularly as Pep Guardiola is staying for another two years.”

It is true that the Spaniard’s extension at the club does provide a sense of purpose and comfort for those around knowing that things will run efficiently for at least three more years. This factor plays a big part in the player’s mind when deciding about a transfer as nobody would want to join an unstable ship.

In the end, it also comes down to the severity of the interest by ourselves and our rival clubs but for now, a definitive stance on where Bellingham might end up, would not make sense.

It is sensible to wait out until the summer and wait for movement from the player’s side to first actually decipher that he is ready to leave Germany for a new challenge. Liverpool would be smart to not let this opportunity go begging.
