Alan Shearer praises Liverpool-linked midfielder Adrien Rabiot for his performances at the FIFA World Cup

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in Juventus and France midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who has been impressive for his nation at the FIFA World Cup.

Rabiot was close to a transfer to rivals Manchester United in the summer but the deal broke down due to contractual difficulties and the player ended up staying at Juventus.

It was a boon for the club and player who has been one of the standout players in an otherwise dismal campaign for Juventus and has become a key member of the squad, although his current contract at the club expires at the end of the season (Transfermarkt)

In the absence of Paul Pogba and N’golo Kante for France at the heart of their midfield, Rabiot has been handed the responsibility to control the games from midfield and till now, he has done his job in a commendable manner and shown a great level.

His performances have not gone unnoticed and Premier League and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer (h/t Liverpool Echo), believes the performances of the player are going under the radar.

“I’ve watched France a couple of times live at the World Cup, Griezmann is going under the radar, as is Rabiot in midfield. There are fascinating battles all over the pitch. It’s going to be a shoot-out.”

His contract situation added to the complicit situation at Juventus brings forward a great opportunity to sign a French international who has shown that he can compete at the highest level for a cut-price deal.

Rabiot will definitely be an upgrade on our current midfield options and at 27 years of age, does have a good few years in his belt.

The player’s continued impressive performances have definitely risen his stocks and we could see one of the top clubs making a move for him if he does not extend his contract at Juventus.
