Liverpool offered the opportunity to land 23-year-old Brazilian attacker

Liverpool offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha

Following injury situations to star winger Luis Diaz and striker Diogo Jota, Liverpool stand offered a chance to sign Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha as per 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Moreover, Manchester United, Newcastle United and even Everton stand offered the chance to get the player on board at their respective clubs. The 23-year-old is an extremely effective forward who can play any role in the front three.

In 54 appearances across all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side, Cunha has a total of seven goals and eight assists. His first season at Madrid was much more successful than his current campaign as he is yet to score a goal this season.

It would not be a bad investment at the present time as the attack seems a bit bleak with two of the best Liverpool players out with injury issues. Luis Diaz is out until March, and Diogo Jota will be back a week or two before Lucho.

Cunha to Liverpool?

Darwin Nunez, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are obviously a trio more than capable of delivering the big goods, but having extra support at times wherein the club is not in the best position when it comes to league standings is a welcome move.

Cunha can be an option from the bench, can also start games due to his versatility and will provide the gaffer with a number of options trying to fit him around the playing XI. However, it is crucial that the Reds do not rush into any decision as we saw back in 2020 as well, signing Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak as stopgaps did not benefit the club greatly as well, and did nothing great in escalating the duo’s careers too.

The former Hertha striker is much more capable than what his numbers at Atletico show, and hopefully if Liverpool decides to make a move for the player, he can provide at least half the goal contributions Diaz and Jota used to do when the duo was on song.
