Three Liverpool superstars who went to 2022 World Cup back in training for Manchester City tie

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp sees Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho and Alisson return to training

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have been handed a boost with three key players in Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho and Alisson Becker all returning to Merseyside and could be available for the important cup tie against Manchester City on Thursday.

Alisson and Fabinho were part of the Brazilian squad which reached the last eight of the FIFA World Cup Finals while Trent with England also shared a similar fate, having lost to eventual runners-up France in the quarter-finals.

Now with the FIFA World Cup fever set to stay on for the next few days, it is rather comforting that club football is back soon.

Hence, for us as well as the players, it is time to switch the mode and be ready for an intense and competitive second half of the season. In hindsight, it’s not the worst thing that they didn’t make the final of the competition so they can return to action a bit early.

Jurgen Klopp will vary in the manner in which the first half of the season unfolded and would not want to repeat the same mistake. Hence, it would definitely be an added boost for the German that three key players of his squad are back in training and could get minutes under their belt against Manchester City.

While Alisson started all games for Brazil, Fabinho and Trent were mostly on the sidelines for the entirety of the tournament and have a better chance to start the game against City.

On the other hand, Virgil van Dijk will not be in contention for the game as he guided his team to a quarter-final finish losing to eventual winners Argentina and most likely would be rested for the game.

That may seem strange but while Fab, Ali and Trent made the same stage of the competition, they barely had any meaningful, strenuous work to do. Ibrahima Konate, however, would definitely a big, big doubt for the game considering he played in the final against Argentina on 18 December.

Club football has been out for more than a month and it would be nice to see all players coming back together and fighting for a good finish come the end of the season.
