Liverpool must fork out £106m to land priority transfer target in the summer

Liverpool can land Jude Bellingham for £106m in the summer transfer window

In what could potentially shape the club’s transfer approach for the summer, Liverpool now knows the fee they need to fork out to land Jude Bellingham.

Back in the middle of September, The Athletic (Subscription Required) claimed that a fee of £131m or around that mark could check the box for potential buyers. For any club with the biggest of financial backing as well, that is an amount which could put their minds into a state of conflict, never mind Liverpool.

But news emerges that Dortmund could be willing to agree to a fee of £106m which in itself is a significantly huge amount, but still lesser than earlier imagined. According to Jan Aage Fjortoft

via Liverpool Echo, put out a tweet stating that Dortmund would go “weak” if offered €150m or more.

Liverpool continue to see themselves linked with a move for the 19-year-old Englishman amid the interests of Real Madrid in the player as well. The Reds would definitely not want a repeat of last summer’s transfer window wherein they lost out on signing Aurelien Tchouameni to Los Blancos.

Hey Jude on Merseyside?

In 27 appearances across all competitions this season for Dortmund, Bellingham has nine goals and four assists to boot. The player is an able central midfielder capable of playing defensive midfield and is precisely what the Reds need at this point in time.

However, we have to wait until the summer to get the ‘rebated’ price and that means putting the rest of the current season into jeopardy. Liverpool are in extremely bad form as they did not learn from a bang-average performance against Leicester and held a 3-1 loss away at Brentford on Sunday.

It would be great if we could get a quality player or two this window, as that would mean reinforcements to secure a Champions League spot as with the current lot, that seems too far a stretch and this is as honest as it could get from a fan’s perspective.

Liverpool target Jude Bellingham.

There are several soon-to-be free agents in the market who we can add to our roster to bolster our squad and hopefully, the Reds somehow make it to a top-four spot this season and we can focus on getting the big signings done soon.

Bellingham has the potential to make a significant impact on the team. If he goes to another club, Liverpool may have to go back to the drawing board and find another target, which could be time-consuming and potentially costly.

Additionally, losing out on him could be demoralising for the team and the fans, as it could indicate that the club is not able to compete with other top teams in the transfer market.
