Transfer News: Liverpool make contact for Serie A ace following major injury blow

Liverpool contact Napoli regarding Kim Min-Jae following Virgil van Dijk injury setback

Virgil van Dijk injured his hamstring in Liverpool’s 3-1 loss at Brentford and Joel Matip came on for the Dutchman at half-time as the manager understandably did not want to take any risk when it came to the 31-year-old.

BBC reported not so long ago that the former Southampton man will soon get in touch with experts to analyse the impact of the injury and get a time frame on his absence from the game. Liverpool will be without their talisman at the back, and will naturally look for replacements in the transfer market.

The Reds’ have plenty of options to choose from Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Phillips. But one could argue that they more or less do not have the same impact Big Virg could have on the game even though they are all class acts in their own respects.

His absence could be a big loss for Liverpool in their backline and the Reds would want to look at players from other teams who could fill in for VVD. Italian news outlet Il Mattino reports via Liverpool Echo

the Reds’ interest in Napoli’s South Korean centre-back Kim Min-Jae.

Kim Min-Jae to Liverpool?

The Merseysiders have ‘called’ Napoli over a chance to bring their star defender to Anfield. The 26-year-old joined Luciano Spaletti’s side over the summer and has been extremely impressive in the short while he has been there, plus he had an excellent World Cup with South Korea as well.

Liverpool would know a thing or two about his defensive abilities as he was rock solid in both appearances against the Reds in the UEFA Champions League earlier this season.

Even though Napoli would not be very smart to let go of their star player, he can be a good fit for the Reds given his rock-solid style of play, and eagerness to commit to a player, which is not so common with Virgil in the recent few weeks.

Easy to understand why the Reds are dipping into the transfer market for a defender, but there seems to be just enough backup to provide unlike for the midfield. For some reason, we have not signed a lot of midfielders in the last few seasons, and that needs to change, and immediately.
