“Let’s have a look”- Jurgen Klopp provides major injury update following Wolves win

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shares Darwin Nunez injury update after Wolves win

The win for Jurgen Klopp‘s side against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup third-round replay was one of the best performances from Liverpool in the entirety of the season. A new-look lineup with youngsters meant that the Reds possibly risked the chances of qualifying for the next round. Still, the pressing ability of the players almost felt like the Liverpool we know from the previous seasons was back.

It is important for the Reds to carry on this winning momentum into the Premier League as well as we currently are as far away as possible from a top-four spot and hence, put our chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League in major doubt.

Liverpool’s #27, Darwin Nunez who’s sitting out as a “precaution” since the last two games, could be back to face Chelsea in the Premier League on 21st January and gaffer Klopp also spoke about the possibility of the Uruguayan returning to action sooner than later.

Speaking on how it is unfair to make the team selection based on this one win against Wolves, Klopp’s words meant that there is certainly the scope for a change or two in the lineup, and here is what he said via the Liverpool Echo:

“I don’t think it would be right after one game to say that’s the team for the next eight weeks or whatever. Let’s have a look. I hope that Darwin (Nunez) is coming back and training tomorrow or Thursday. He might then be in contention.”

Darwin delight for the Reds

The former Benfica striker missed training all week due to a minor injury, and the Reds certainly could not risk putting him into action when vulnerable as he is a very important part of the frontline.

In 23 appearances across all competitions for the Reds, the striker has 10 goals and three assists. Even though it appeared that the player missed a lot of chances, his movement and sharpness in front of the goal to make the right run at the right time will ensure that his efforts will eventually show output in terms of goal contributions sooner than later.

His partnership with Mohamed Salah is still not completely off the mark for the Reds and hopefully, Darwin will soonly learn a thing or two about being clinical from The Egyptian King. Exactly a week after the Chelsea game, Liverpool face Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round. The Reds will hope to exact revenge for the Premier League drubbing we received at the hands of the Seagulls.

More Liverpool News:

Overall, Nunez’s inclusion in the team could provide a much-needed boost for the Reds as they look to turn their form around and make a push for success in the remainder of the campaign.
