Liverpool are linked with a move for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa. The 25-year-old Italian international is under contract at The Old Lady until 2025 (Transfermarkt). Apparently, gaffer Jurgen Klopp views Chiesa as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.
That is according to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato (h/t Liverpool Echo). Not a bad shout as the last time we got a right-winger from the Serie A, it turned out to just be fine, no? However, do we necessarily need the services of another forward?
One would believe that Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo are enough firepower. However, apart from Mo, there is no right-winger on this list. But we have Harvey Elliott who will hopefully transition into his natural role of a winger sooner than later.
A fee of about £53m should see Juve willing to let go of the player given their own tough battle with their financial issues. But the question which would obviously arise is whether would Fede be ready to play second fiddle to Salah at least from the onset.
Judging by his current form, there stands absolutely no doubt that Salah could go on for as long as possible as the player maintains very high fitness levels and also rarely sits out with injury issues. TOUCHWOOD. Acquiring Chiesa, an extremely skilled player, may not be necessary for the Reds despite his world-class abilities.
Directing the money towards signing a midfielder would be a better option instead as three Chiesas could get the Reds a Jude Bellingham, who is actually a player the Reds actually need more than just wanting the 19-year-old.
One thing is for certain, with the tight pockets of FSG, money spending should be minimal and only for the right players. However, if they somehow decide to invest a lot of money into the club in the summer, we could have all the players in the world who we want at Anfield.
In conclusion, Chiesa could bring a lot of skill and talent to Liverpool, but he is not among the most crucial players that the team currently needs. Instead, it could be more beneficial for the team to prioritize other positions before considering adding the Euro 2020 winner to the squad.
