Transfer News: Liverpool to recall 21-year-old Academy star from loan

Liverpool to recall Rhys Williams from Blackpool loan

Liverpool have decided to recall 21-year-old centre-back Rhys Williams from his loan spell at Blackpool as the Reds look to strengthen their bench. The Preston lad has spent three spells out on loan now.

Last season, the player was at Swansea and back in 2020, the player featured for Kidderminster on loan as well. Fans would remember Williams as the saviour of Liverpool’s top-four hopes alongside Nathaniel Phillips and Ozan Kabak in the 2020/21 season.

Williams formed a formidable partnership with Nat that season in helping propel the Reds to a spot in the UEFA Champions League after all of the first-choice centre-backs sat out with various injury issues.

Rhys back at the Reds

The Athletic writes about the Reds recalling the player from a largely successful loan spell as he played 17 games in the league for The Seasiders and at the same time, wasn’t very far from home at Liverpool as well as Blackpool is also in Lancashire.

Williams’ incoming could open the door for Nat to leave the club as at fifth-choice, the player is hardly getting any game time. However, in the games he has played, the player has been nothing short of magnificent and is an embodiment of a Liverpool player, giving his 100% for the club.

Virgil van Dijk’s injury situation might be the fuel to bring Rhys back to the Reds as the Dutchman sees himself out for a month as per the club’s official website. Williams is a young and talented centre-back who has been gaining valuable experience playing regular first-team football with Blackpool. Moreover, by bringing him back to Liverpool, the team could benefit from his development and potentially integrate him into the first team.

More Liverpool News:

It is a wise move in essence as the squad is certainly ageing and having young quality options could never go wrong. Moreover, we are somewhat in a similar situation to that in the 2020 season, and Rhys knows a thing or two about helping his team qualify for the UCL.
