Galatasaray eye move for out-of-favour Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips

With more than a day to go before the January transfer deadline, Liverpool centre-back Nathaniel Phillips could soon head out as there interest in the player. Particularly from Turkey wherein Galatasaray are eyeing a move for the 25-year-old.

Nat has visibly struggled for game time this season. With Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip as the usual starters and Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as the backups, for a player of Nat’s calibre to be the fifth-choice centre-back isn’t a flattering verdict.

However, with Virgil’s recent injury, the opportunity of game-time has come up. But since Liverpool are no longer in the reckoning in any cup competition, Phillips could further struggle to earn minutes. In league games, it is tough to see beyond Matip and Konate and hence, a move is what would suit both parties the best.

Phillips for the Reds

As per The Athletic, a number of teams are in the reckoning for getting Phillips on board but Galatasaray are absolute “front-runners” in this case. Liverpool value their player at around £10m and Nat could part ways with the Reds in case any team could match this offer.

The fans would know he is a player who gives his blood and sweat to the team as we saw in the 2020-21 season. Phillips was rock-solid at the back for the Reds in the injury-ravaged campaign and took us through to a UEFA Champions League spot, earning himself cult-status at Anfield.

Speaking of Williams, the 21-year-old recently made the move back to Liverpool from a loan deal and his incoming to the squad could potentially mean that the Reds could probably let go of Nat if the right deal comes through.

With only five appearances this season as well, the player would obviously not like sitting out in every game and hence, it is understandable if the player also fancies a move given how he is approaching his prime and would ideally want to play week in and week out. But no matter what, Phillips is a Liverpool cult-hero and that will stay forever.
