Liverpool could get Nicolo Barella transfer boost
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta via ECHO, Inter Milan could see themselves forced to let go of superstar midfielder Nicolo Barella in the summer. The reports say that I Nerazzurri would have to let Barella leave the club in case they do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, and Liverpool could poach in on him, given their long-standing interest in the Italian international.
Following the Serie A governing body’s decision to reverse their decision of a 15-point deduction to Juventus, the Old Lady see themselves surge to the third spot on the table, pushing Inter down to the sixth place.
While not a lot of the season left, the Serie A race could become interesting to see who ends up where. Liverpool would hope for Inter to miss out on the Champions League with all their heart so that Barella could have a greater chance of joining the Reds in the summer.
In 42 appearances across all competitions this season, he has scored eight goals and has as many assists to his name as well. The 26-year-old is a long-standing Liverpool target, and his versatility could fit the Reds’ system like a glove.
Nicolo to the Reds soon?
In addition to central midfield, Barella is skilled enough to play much more advanced and is a tough nut to crack in defensive midfield as well. However, in recent games, his deployment as a box-to-box midfielder has also been a great watch.
Think of it. Apart from Gini Wijnaldum in the recent past and obviously Steven Gerrard much before, the Reds have not had a quality B2B player, who could remain injury-free for a substantial period of time. Naby Keita could have been one, but let’s not look up his injury record.
More good news for the Reds is the fact that he tends to play on the right side of the midfield where his defensive skills have been top-notch.
With Barella in the midfield, potentially overlapping the Jordan Henderson role, Trent Alexander-Arnold would enjoy much more attacking freedom, and that could potentially end up Kevin de Bruyne-esque for the Reds.

However, the good things to hear only end there. Liverpool need to get in a good bid for the player so that they also get good value for Barella, who’s contract at Inter ends only in 2026 (Transfermarkt).
