Liverpool has reportedly made an offer to Barcelona defender Jules Kounde. The Frenchman, who joined Camp Nou from Sevilla just a year ago, is reportedly keen on leaving the Spanish club.
That is according to El Nacional (translated by F365) via liverpool.com who report that Kounde is unhappy at Barcelona. He’s apparently grown frustrated by being played out of position at right-back, instead of his preferred centre-back role, as allegedly promised by manager Xavi.
Manchester United are also a possible destination for the defender. If a deal could potentially stand reached, Liverpool would certainly benefit from exploring the opportunity to bring in Kounde who is obviously a top-quality centre-back.
Liverpool’s interest in Koundé comes as no surprise considering the defensive issues they faced last season due to the inconsistent performances of key players. The inconsistencies of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip highlighted the need for reinforcements in the heart of the defence.
Kounde’s arrival would provide valuable depth and quality to Jurgen Klopp’s backline. The Frenchman has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe, showcasing his technical skills, composure, and ability to read the game effectively.
A potential move to Liverpool would offer the 24-year-old the opportunity to compete for major trophies, including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. Joining a club with a proven track record of success and a manager renowned for developing young talents could further enhance his career prospects.
However, negotiations between the two clubs and the player’s personal preferences will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of this potential transfer.
If Barcelona are willing to part ways with Kounde and Liverpool can reach an agreement on the terms, it could pave the way for the Frenchman’s move to Anfield. His current contract expires in 2027 (Transfermarkt).
Securing Koundé’s services would represent a significant coup for Liverpool, signalling their ambition to strengthen the squad and compete at the highest level. Pairing Kounde with Van Dijk and/or Ibrahima Konate would create a formidable defensive partnership that could provide the foundation for continued success.
