In the club’s official matchday programme (h/t Liverpool official site), Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endō shared his thoughts about new teammate Alisson Becker, expressing his admiration for the world-class goalkeeper.
The Reds signed Endō from Bundesliga side Stuttgart for £16.2m during the summer transfer window. The Japanese international team captain has appeared in five games for Liverpool so far while starting in two of them.
With vast experience from the Bundesliga, where he earned the affection of Stuttgart fans for his dedication and service, the 30-year-old brings a wealth of knowledge.
Endō expressed to the club’s official matchday programme (h/t Liverpool official site) that Liverpool have many highly skilled players but the Reds goalie’s shot-stopping ability stands out. He said:
“All the players have very high skills here and among them, I think the goalkeeper Alisson is great. I have played with a lot of ’keepers but his ability to stop shots is excellent. Of course, the forward players have very high skills and the other players are very skillful as well, but Alisson’s ability to stop shots is brilliant. He saves the team from dangerous situations and he is very powerful.”
Liverpool signed Alisson from Serie A side AS Roma in the 2018 summer transfer window for £67m. Alisson’s signing made him the world’s most expensive goalkeeper at the time, but the record has since been surpassed.
The Brazilian international has truly been a game-changer and a consistently indispensable performer for the Reds. The 30-year-old has appeared in 237 matches and kept 104 clean sheets for Liverpool so far in all competitions with a clean sheet rate of 43.04%.
Alisson has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup with Liverpool. The Brazilian has rightfully gained world-renowned recognition for being an important figure for Liverpool through both their highs and lows.
The Brazilian goalkeeper won The Best FIFA Goalkeeper, UEFA Goalkeeper of the Season, Yashin Trophy, IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper, and 2 times Premier League Golden Glove during his time at Liverpool.
Over and above that, Alisson has three assists and one goal for Liverpool in the Premier League. The world-class shot-stopper is well-known for his vast passing range as well.
The 30-year-old’s only goal for Liverpool came against West Brom Albion during a stoppage-time winner when the Reds desperately needed a hero. Alisson’s goal saved the Champions League qualification spot for Liverpool.
Alisson has already marked his legacy at Anfield and yet he continues to go even further. Every Kopite holds immense love for the Brazilian, and his position remains indispensable as Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp initiates his “Liverpool 2.0” project.
