Liverpool star Alisson Becker blames the Reds’ strikers in dull 0-0 draw with Manchester United

Alisson Becker and Liverpool faced off against Erik ten Hag’s men on Sunday and the clash was but a drab affair resulting in an anti-climactic draw. This match saw the Reds make the most unsuccessful shots in a game and not manage a single goal for the first time in 35 games.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had spent the summer rebuilding his team’s defense by disposing off players such as bringing in world-class players such as Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai and letting several older players go. Attributable to this, the Anfield giants defended expertly but fizzled out at the other end of the pitch. The forwards were imprudent with their passes and missed out several opportunities when they had to pull the trigger.

As quoted by the Mirror, Alisson Becker spoke of how the forwards could have navigated the passes and created better chances of securing a goal. Becker did serve two key saves in the match. Pertaining this, the goalkeeper explained saying:

“Maybe we could improve in the creation phase in the last third of the pitch, creating better chances for ourselves, being more calm on the ball and making better choices. Sometimes we rushed a little bit.” Shooting balls that we could have passed to a player in a better position. But this is part of the game, we have to learn from that as quick as possible, as the season doesn’t give you too much time to improve.”

As one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers, Alisson is someone who has earned the Reds several wins over the years. He has the right to expect the same level from those around him and as of yet, the strikers have fallen short of expectations this season.

Premier League ace disappointed over Liverpool’s strikers who brought the team down

The Reds sent out 34 unsuccessful shots, a record of the most shots they have had to fire without scoring a single goal for the Reds. despite dominating both halves of the game, Klopp’s stars squandered their chances for securing goals and helped Man Utd achieve their first draw of the season.

On thorough assessment of the goalless draw, Becker’s disapproval of how the strikers let the team down seems appropriate. The Erik ten Hag’s men could have brought home three points in the second half, had Rasmus Hojlund converted the clear shot he had at scoring. The Reds defense’s aggressive front enabled blocking Man Utd’s shots.
