Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson lauds the performance of Ibrahima Konate against Arsenal in the 1-1 draw at Anfield

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson praised Ibrahima Konate for his performance against Arsenal in the 1-1 Premier League draw at Anfield. The 24-year-old nullified Arsenal’s attacking lineup throughout the game, pocketing Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus in a dominant display.

The 24-year-old used his sheer physical strength, position and intelligent reading of the game to eliminate the threats. Furthermore, the Frenchman used possession wisely and comfortably in the all-round display alongside captain Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool have lost Joel Matip to a season-long injury and need Konate to deliver consistently during the congested fixture period. The Reds are currently second in the Premier League table and actively competing for every trophy.

Liverpool’s defence has been formidable this season despite the injury issues with Matip, Andy Robertson and now Kostas Tsimikas sidelined. They have only conceded 16 goals in the Premier League, joint-lowest with league-leaders Arsenal.

Speaking to LFCTV, Alisson praised Konate for his dominant performance, keeping Arsenal’s attack at bay with ease. He said:

“Yeah, I agree, one of the best. Ibou, everybody knows how strong he is and he’s improving season after season. As he’s a big man. strong man, I think nobody realises it but he’s still young and he’s improving, being a more mature player alongside Virgil – who had an amazing game as well.”

Konate has struggled with nagging injury issues that have hampered his progress in the Reds jersey. However, observers have well-documented the France international’s qualities, anticipating his ascension as the primary defender after Van Dijk.

Konate completely nullified Martinelli at the right flank, covering for Trent Alexander-Arnold whenever he dropped too central in the midfield. The 24-year-old possesses the physique of a tank but maintains a good pace, often catching fast wingers off-guard to surprise them.

The France international rarely goes on the ground to make his impeccable tackles that are a sight to behold. The Reds are hoping that Konate could continue to build a formidable partnership with Van Dijk in the defence. However, they need recruitment in January if they are serious about the title chances this season.
