Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talks about Harvey Elliott

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp spoke highly of Harvey Elliott in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Brentford. He shed light on the young midfielder’s progress and the challenges inherent in the early stages of a footballer’s career.

Klopp emphasized the importance of recognizing Elliott’s age and acknowledging the natural fluctuations in form and performance that young players experience as they navigate their development. He highlighted Elliott‘s impressive contributions as a substitute, noting his impact off the bench despite not always replicating the same level of performance when starting matches. Here is what Klopp had to say via ECHO:

“Harvey is not doing that, but we have had talks. You forget how old he is. Young players go through different moments in early days of their career – flying, not flying, working hard – not him, but all young players in general. Harvey has been incredibly important and I’m sure he knows that. He probably wishes to have started every game, but when he has come on he is brilliant, when he has started it’s not the same. But he’s young – it’s not like he’ll be a supersub for the rest of his career. Learn the game, use your skillset, there is a lot he is doing well and there is more he can do. He is a joy to work with. It is absolutely exceptional how he has trained this week.”

While acknowledging Elliott’s desire to feature more regularly in the starting lineup, Klopp emphasized the importance of patience and continued growth for young players. He also shed light on Elliott’s potential for further development and expressed confidence that he will evolve beyond the role of a super-sub in the future.

Elliott for the Reds!

Despite his youth, Elliott has already proven to be a valuable asset for Liverpool, with his performances off the bench earning praise from Klopp and his coaching staff. Klopp highlighted Elliott’s exceptional work ethic and attitude in training, praising his commitment to improving and adapting his game.

Looking ahead, Klopp sees immense potential in Elliott and believes that with continued dedication and development, he can become an integral part of Liverpool’s squad. While Elliott’s current role may be that of a super-sub, Klopp is confident that he has the talent and determination to evolve into a consistent performer in the starting lineup.

Elliott’s statistics this season, including one goal and three assists in 32 appearances across all competitions, underscore his contribution to the team’s success. Despite his young age, the 20-year-old has already demonstrated his ability to make an impact on the pitch and Klopp’s comments reflect the confidence the manager has in his abilities.

All in all, while he may currently be thriving as a super-sub, Klopp believes that with time and experience, Elliott will evolve into a key player for Liverpool. But fate has it. Jurgen Klopp will not manage Elliott into that future superstar. It is sad, but we have to live with the fact that Jurgen Klopp shall leave the Reds at the end of this season.
