Liverpool star expressed his delight through social media after selecting to represent his nation in football again after a long time

The last time Joe Gomez was on a practice field on England duty, the Liverpool star defender was being carried into an ambulance and driven to the hospital after rupturing the patellar tendon in his left knee during a training session.

That was in November 2020 and the 3.5-year wait for another call-up by his country took a “psychological toll,” the Liverpool defender said Wednesday.

Gomez said:

“It meant a lot to me yesterday, doing the warmup,” It’s nice to feel I can close that chapter, not to be over-dramatic.”

“I would be lying if I said it did not have a psychological toll as I left here in an ambulance quite abruptly from the training pitch [the last time]. Just doing the warm-up on Tuesday, it was nice.”
