Liverpool are considered to be the best team in Europe this season, and rightly so, for their great performances. Still, their form has dipped lately, with draws against Everton and Aston Villa. As they move closer to the Premier League title, Jamie Carragher has expressed concern regarding Arne Slot’s faith in certain players this season.

Liverpool have been performing at an elite level and are absolutely thriving but several players have been seen struggling to get minutes due to the team’s packed superstars. Slot has elevated players like Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister into key roles and are seen every other match week.
However, Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot has little to no faith in three players.. Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, and Federico Chiesa.
Slot does not seem to trust certain players
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, despite often making outrageous takes, occasionally provides valuable insights. In his column for The Telegraph, he suggested that Arne Slot does not fully trust certain players and is unlikely to rely on them as Liverpool push for three trophies this season.
Slot has consistently favoured a core group of 14 to 15 players, showing little confidence in back-up options like Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo unless absolutely necessary. Federico Chiesa, Liverpool’s only summer signing, has made little impact, with his limited minutes indicating that Slot does not see him as a game-changer.
Elliott appeared 53 times last season in every matchday squad and has been reduced to 16 games, totaling 502 minutes. Endo, who previously played nearly 3,000 minutes in 44 matches, has now averaged 33 minutes per game in the 21 matches he has played this season. Chiesa has thus remained a bit-part player, mainly involved in cup competitions and not yet starting a Premier League game.
There is no reason to question the manager, as Liverpool continue to perform at the highest level without any disruptions, even in the absence of the three players. However, the situation may not solely be about trust. As the saying goes, “Don’t fix what’s not broken,” meaning the team requires minimal changes. That said, occasional appearances for the trio could prove beneficial, providing key players with much-needed rest while maintaining squad depth.

Carragher may have a point, as there is little reason for Slot to rely on out-of-form players at this crucial stage of the season. With Liverpool on the brink of a potential title and a pivotal clash against Manchester City approaching, sticking with the core squad that has carried them this far seems the wisest approach.
