Liverpool want Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz to bolster their midfield during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are ready to battle top European clubs to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz to bolster their attacking midfield. The Reds are on the verge of sealing their 20th Premier League title under head coach Arne Slot this season.

However, the campaign was far from perfect as Liverpool faced many ups and downs throughout this season, hindering their momentum. The Reds lost the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United after crashing out of the Champions League in the round of 16.

That problem has persisted for Slot as many senior players struggle with maintaining their consistency throughout the season. As Slot has not spent money in the first two windows at Liverpool, things will drastically change during the summer.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are ready to battle top European clubs like Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich to sign Leverkusen star Wirtz. Leverkusen want a fee of around €120-130 million for the German international, which has complicated the situation for many clubs.

However, Liverpool have to break a certain threshold to strengthen their squad, which possesses enough quantity in the midfield department. The Reds possess Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai as starting options.

However, Slot lacks a consistent provider of output in his midfield, someone who could deliver goals and assists regularly. When it comes to world-class attacking midfielders with consistency in output, Wirtz sits among the best in the world.

The 21-year-old has 15 goals and 13 assists from 41 games in all competitions for Leverkusen this season. Wirtz has the versatility to play as a left-winger, along with his favourable attacking midfield position, exploiting the channels constantly.

Liverpool thoroughly assesses the players before their final decision, and apart from Wirtz’s price tag, Leverkusen’s preferred style of play is the only factor that complicates the potential pursuit. However, Wirtz’s quality supersedes any doubt of him struggling to adjust at Liverpool.
