If reports from numerous news agencies are to believed, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has blocked midfielder Lucas Leiva’s move to Turkish club Galatasaray. While the Brazilian is not touted to have a long-term future at the club, the hierarchy at Liverpool is keen to bring in a reinforcement before they let go of Leiva.
Lucas has been a great servant of the club, featuring 200 times for the Merseyside club ever since he joined them in 2007. Though he was trained to be a box to box midfielder, numerous injuries meant that he never realized the potential he was touted for. He was deployed primarily as a centre-back in the previous season and the club might be keen to hold on to him in order to add some depth to their defence, an area which looks thin on paper at the moment.
With the transfer window closure approaching soon, it remains to be seen if the Brazilian will be shipped or will be retained for at least one more season by Klopp.
