Liverpool Looking To Sign Premier League Winner

Crystal Palace v Leicester City - Premier LeagueThe goalkeeping conundrum at Liverpool seems to be taking a new twist every weekend. Even with Simon Mignolet holding out in the two games against Middlesbrough and Everton, there have been reports that link Joe Hart with a move to Anfield.

The English keeper has been sent away on loan to Torino but it seems there is another Premier League winning goalkeeper on the horizon for Jurgen Klopp. Kasper Schmeichel, the 30-year-old star keeper for Leicester City, is a serious target for the Reds according to Football Whispers.

Schmeichel was incredible in the Premier League winning run that Leicester had last season and had kept 15 clean sheets. While this season has been a struggle for Leicester as a whole, Schmeichel has a lot of competition from Ron-Robert Zieler, who signed from Hannover at the start of the season.

Leicester are struggling in the Premier League, though they still made it to the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League. There are a number of players that stayed on with the Foxes at the start of the season but Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and a few others could follow N’Golo Kante out of the club.

Should Liverpool move for Schmeichel?

This rumour does seem to be completely out of place and well the Reds already have a couple of decent goalkeepers that Klopp can work with. While Loris Karius needs more time to do well and adjust to the rigours of the Premier League, many Bundesliga experts have tipped the former Mainz keeper to become a stalwart for the club in the future.

Mignolet, too, has done pretty well since coming back to the side after being dropped by Klopp. The Belgian even started the season impressively and it was a surprise seeing him being dropped for Karius.

Schmeichel might be a good keeper but Liverpool have a better option in Karius in the coming years. Signing the Danish keeper wouldn’t be the smartest move either, even though he has a lot of experience playing in the Premier League.

The Reds are second in the table at the moment but they could have been higher had they not dropped points against Bournemouth and West Ham. This certainly was a learning for Klopp as he seems to have worked on the defence and is now playing Ragnar Klavan in the back four.

Liverpool have a real chance of making it to the Champions League for next season if they keep playing to this level. If they can fix the defence and goalkeeping issues, they could finish higher than fourth position, easily.
