Liverpool had been linked with a move for Mahmoud Dahoud but the German’s move to Anfield was kept on hold as Borussia Monchengladbach rejected any talks of a move. The 21-year-old had been earmarked by Jurgen Klopp to move to the Reds but it is being reported that he will face a lot of competition for the signature of the player by Barcelona.
Footmercato has suggested that the Catalan side will be looking to sign Dahoud up but there is a caveat in this as well. The La Liga club will only be looking to sign Dahoud up if they miss out on their other target, Maxime Lopez of Lyon.
Dahoud had an exceptional season last time around for the Bundesliga side but this season it has been a bit of an average one for the highly-rated player. The 21-year-old has only scored one goal all season and has just a couple of assists to his name.
Gladbach have been struggling as well and while the club would want to keep hold of one of their stars, they know it is virtually impossible to say no to a club like Barcelona.
Liverpool would certainly be disappointed hearing this news but the youngster could do well for the Reds. Barcelona have been looking to add quality into their side but so have Liverpool and the Reds have already been hit hard by the likes of Christian Pulisic and Quincy Promes not joining the club now.
They even faced a rejection with Jese Rodriguez as he seems set to return to Las Palmas in La Liga and not move to the Premier League.
It does seem a little weird for Barcelona to be linked with Dahoud since they have also been linked with a number of other star players, such as Philippe Coutinho. The Catalan side haven’t been at their best this season and even the likes of new signing Andre Gomes has failed to fit in.
Coutinho could be a player that holds the key for the move, should he remain at Anfield, the La Liga side will have to find another player soon but if he does move to Barcelona, Dahoud could be coming to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp does have a great relationship with the players from Germany and that is another ace that Liverpool will hope to use when they want to sign the German international. The winter window seems to be ending without any player coming in and Liverpool fans will hope that the summer window next season is better than the winter one.
