Resilient Liverpool Continue To Target Ligue 1 Left-backs After Failing In Previous Attempts

After having failed in their attempts to sign Monaco’s highly-rated left-back Benjamin Mendy, Liverpool are now targeting Nice’s Henrique Dalbert, according to French outlet Mercato365.

Mendy, just 22-years of age, has attracted the interest of many big clubs this summer. Last campaign, he was one of the many young stars to emerge from a Monaco side which won the Ligue1 title and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, Liverpool’s attempts to lure Mendy to Anfield, proved unsuccessful and they have turned their attentions to another Ligue1 left-back.

Dalbert, who joined Nice last year from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimarares, is also a subject of interest from another Premier League club. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Arsenal are keen to sign the full-back, with Inter Milan also interested in the lad. However, the player himself is believed to be more enticed towards a move to Inter.

Dalbert, who is Brazilian, is only 23-years old. Although, he is yet to represent his national team, a call-up is expected soon. A big move would hasten that milestone!

Liverpool had been prepared to offer a fee in the region of £40million for Mendy. It has not yet been revealed how much the Merseyside club are willing to offer for Dalbert, but with that kind of cash at the disposal, we should have enough to convince Nice to accept our offer.

Signing a new left-back has become a priority for Liverpool, who would prefer to move James Milner back to a midfield role. Spaniard Alberto Moreno has struggled at Anfield since signing from Sevilla two summers ago. It seems like he won’t be getting another chance.

Jurgen Klopp wishes to revamp his back-line. Liverpool’s defence has been their achilles heel in recent years. It is imperative that we reinforce this summer, if we are to compete for the Premier League title next season.

The return of Champions League football, should aid the Reds in the market. Over the past few transfer windows, we have struggled to attract the very best talents to the club.
