Liverpool Receive Offers For Promising Defender – A Loan Move Would Be Ideal For All 3 Parties Involved

Newly promoted Brighton are interested in taking Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on a loan spell in a move that could suit all parties, according to the Daily Mail.

Gomez was one of the several talented youngsters to come into the Liverpool set up in the 2015-16 season. Like Jonjo Shelvey of Newcastle United, Gomez also made the switch from Charlton’s famed youth academy.

However, he has found first-team opportunities limited at a Liverpool club filled with talent in almost every position. After having secured Champions League football for the season, Jurgen Klopp has been intent on signing players capable of playing in the first team. This is likely to reduce the number of opportunities that may come Gomez’s way next season.

A switch to Brighton could not come at a better time for Gomez, as the 20-year-old will also have opportunities to prove himself in the Premier League rather than in the lower leagues. This could work out in his favour. Even if his future does not lie at Liverpool, we could make a handsome profit on the player if he manages to become successful in the Premier League.

One of the major issues for Gomez has been injury problems, which have curtailed his Liverpool career so badly to date. However, the temporary switch may bring about a change in the training regimes which may have a positive impact on his injury record.

On his day, Gomez can be an explosive player with his pace and athleticism. Unfortunately, he has not been able to translate those physical attributes into performances on the pitch so far. This is likely down to the lack of experience and his tryst with injuries.

“We’ve registered our interest but he’s not our player. It will be up to Liverpool,” Brighton manager Chris Hughton had told the Argus last week in subject of a potential loan move for the defender who can play as a centre-back or a left-back. “I’d like to think we are very much in the running.”

Brighton are in the Premier League after enjoying tremendous success through the loan system with Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori one of the positives. There is no reason why Gomez could be one of those success stories for the Seagulls. Gomez has a contract with Liverpool until 2022 after signing an extension only a couple of months ago.
