‘Everything Is Okay From My Side’ – Liverpool Manager Is Still Hopeful About This Contract Rebel Staying At Anfield

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is still hopeful of finding a favorable situation to Emre Can’s situation.

The young German midfielder is out of contract next summer and the negotiations over a new contract have been dragging for months. The Reds have offered new terms, but the player’s camp stalled the discussions over demands for a release clause.

It is reported that Can wanted a release clause in his contract to facilitate a move to another club if a bid comes by. However, Liverpool are not willing to put in a release clause and even if they do, it won’t be at the lower levels as desired by the player.

That meant that the discussions have hit an impasse and with every passing day, Can is moving closer to the exit door. With his contract set to expire in summer, he would be free to negotiate with foreign clubs in January.

And, in Can’s case, that foreign club would be Juventus. The Italian Champions were long-term suitors of the midfielder having checked his availability multiple times over the past couple of transfer windows.

As it now looks increasingly likely that the German international could leave Anfield on a free transfer, manager Klopp is still hopeful of seeing a compromise reached.

“There is nothing new,” Klopp was quoted by Liverpool Echo.

“I said it a few times, it’s our job to make this club as exciting as possible.

“It’s allowed that he could sign a contract (with Liverpool) in May. I have no problem with that.

“As long as Emre doesn’t give me one sign that his mind is elsewhere, I don’t have to talk about this. Everything is okay from my side.”

A pre-contract agreement with any European club in January could derail all Klopp’s hopes but the tactician expects his countryman to extend his stay at the club – even if it takes longer discussions.

He agreed that it is a situation that would allow other clubs to swoop for his player, but something he can’t avoid. Klopp indicated that he would probably do the same if another player is at the end of his contract and is available on a free transfer.

However, Klopp was quick to defuse the severity of the situation and indicate that he is not flustered by the situation as long as Can focuses on the job at hand

Why did it come to this? Ideally, the club should have extended Can’s contract by now or should have cashed on him. A player shouldn’t be allowed to hold the club at ransom over a contract, no matter how good he is.
