All is not done yet as Liverpool still have a chance of holding on to out-of-contract German ace – reports

Emre Can might have become one of our go-to guys this season but the cloud over his future just is not dispersing. The German has rejected every single opportunity to sign a new deal with us and Juventus have been keen on signing Emre.

The Serie A side have been courting him since the start of the season but it seems like this deal is not done and dusted.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Can has told his agent to stop all negotiations until the end of the season as the former Bayer Leverkusen man is committed to doing his best for us. Juventus have now come out and said that they do not know whether Can will join them or not.

Giuseppe Marotta was speaking to Mediaset Premium (h/t Daily Mail) and stated that they are waiting for Can to speak with them, failing of which they will move on.

“We are periodically pointed to as a club that buys players. We have a squad suited to three tournaments and it meets our needs.

“We’re ready to take any opportunities, I won’t deny we are concentrated on Emre Can and awaiting his response. That is our primary objective.

“If there is a negative response, we’ll move our attention on to other players.”

Can Has Become An Important Part Of Liverpool

The German has become more consistent for us in the second half of the season and even though he hasn’t signed a new deal yet, there is hope that we can hold on to the midfielder.

Winning the Champions League would be the perfect way to show that we can challenge the big boys. This is a similar situation to the Steven Gerrard one back in 2004-05 and it was our win over AC Milan in the CL final that kept the Englishman at Liverpool despite interest from Chelsea.

Can is not at the level of Gerrard but he is one of our better players and should he remain at the club next season, we can see a potential partnership with Naby Keita, who would be joining us from RB Leipzig.

The duo could dominate the opposition for years to come and if Can can see the future of the club and how we are improving consistently, that might be enough for him to stay at Anfield for a few more years.
