According to a report from Liverpool Echo, former Liverpool star Joe Allen is rooting for us to lift the Champions League trophy this season. Currently playing for the relegation-threatened Stoke City, Allen visited Anfield last weekend and the trip might have sparked some old memories.

The player was a part of that infamous Europa League defeat back in 2016 but he seems to be of the opinion that we have what it takes to win the Champions League this year.

Speaking after the 0-0 stalemate, Allen said:

“I think they’ve been incredible all season. It’s only that Man City have been that good has taken the shine off them.

“I think they have been top drawer. Their European games have been incredible. Let’s hope they can go out on Wednesday and do a job to get themselves into the final.”

Well, Allen has echoed the sentiments of several Liverpool fans across the world. We have been consistent from day one and our attacking trio has been absolutely spectacular. It is certainly not easy to do so well against a side like AS Roma but with a 5-2 lead, the second leg will be surrounded by an air of optimism.

Allen also went on to talk about how he knew a long time ago that Jurgen Klopp was aiming to build a special future for the club. He reasoned that the squad was quite young back then but with added experience and the inclusion of players like Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, Liverpool are capable of “blowing away teams at times”.

Our attackers have rightfully walked away with most of the praise this season but as the second leg of the semi-final looms close, it is imperative that we continue their brilliant form and progress to the next stage.
