Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Liverpool do not need to sign another defender after Joe Gomez’s return from injury.

The Englishman was one of the rising stars last season but had to miss out on the World Cup after having a surgery on an ankle.

He missed the Champions League final too but when Klopp was asked if the Reds were going to sign another defender, the German was quoted by Yahoo Sport as saying:

“I’m happy with our players to be honest. I don’t see the need [to sign a defender].

“Joe Gomez brings a lot of things that we don’t find on the transfer market to be honest.”

Gomez did play in our 4-1 win over Manchester United and could be the player to partner Virgil van Dijk in the first match of the Premier League season against West Ham United.

The young Englishman did play as a right-back for us last season but he has been used a central defender in pre-season and we could see him play a lot of games for us in this position this season.

Dejan Lovren has not returned yet after his exploits in the World Cup and with Joel Matip carrying an injury, all signs point to Gomez getting his chance to impress Klopp as a central defender this season.

Frankly, we don’t need another central defender as we have Ragnar Klavan in the side and with Nathaniel Clyne back to full fitness, we should see Gomez in the heart of the defence.
