“That means nothing” – Jurgen Klopp doesn’t believe 6-point lead counts as half the season is still left

Mohamed Salah scores against Newcastle

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not want his side to be carried away as they opened up a six-point lead over second-placed Tottenham.

The Reds comprehensively defeated Newcastle 4-0 and saw Manchester City lose to Leicester City, which pushed the Cityzens down to third in the table.

Klopp claimed the six-point lead is nothing with half of the season left and wanted the side to concentrate on the tough tasks against Arsenal and Man City.

The German was speaking after the win and wanted the team to create their own history (h/t Mirror):

“We want to create our own history so the first time in the Premier League (the club is) unbeaten (at half way), and we conceded seven goals, that is good. Numbers good, good situation, but 19 games to go.

“A six point lead… that means nothing. We play Arsenal and City. Good that we have six points more than other teams but that is pretty much what we wanted to do all the time, create a basis for the rest of the season. Now the first part of the season is over.”

The German conceded that we face some tough teams in City, Arsenal and Tottenham in the second half of the campaign as 19 games are left.

The next two games will go a long way in suggesting if we are serious title contenders. Arsenal at home will not be easy and City away is certainly going to be one of our toughest tests this season.

Tottenham have a couple of easy fixtures in the coming days and we have to be wary of the threat posed by Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
