Good news for Liverpool as Crystal Palace face goalkeeping crisis ahead of weekend clash

Liverpool’s opponents at the weekend, Crystal Palace, also face an injury crisis ahead of the game. The Reds will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren while Palace are having a tough time with their goalkeepers.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Roy Hodgson will give 39-year-old Julian Speroni his first start since December 2017 due to the injuries to Vincent Guaita and Wayne Hennessey.

The two keepers are expected to be out for a month and Speroni is their only senior shot-stopper. Palace are in the window for another keeper, and the report claims that they are looking to sign 21-year-old Lucas Perri from Sao Paulo on loan.

Even with Speroni starting, Liverpool will have a tough task to break down the Palace defence. The Eagles pulled off one of the shocks of the season when they defeated Manchester City at the Etihad, and we have to be wary of their threat in attack.

Speroni was one of the better keepers in the Premier League a few years ago, and we should not take him lightly.

Liverpool’s problems at the back need to be addressed to, and it will be interesting to see who Jurgen Klopp selects for the starting XI.

The Reds are four points clear at the top of the table, and another win on Saturday will put the pressure on City who play Huddersfield on Sunday.
