“You can never live in the future” – Out-of-contract Liverpool star offers assurance that he is focused at Anfield

Daniel Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge isn’t thinking about his Liverpool future despite his contract running out at the end of this season. The English striker has suffered several injuries during his time at Anfield but is focused on the title race for the remainder of this campaign.

Sturridge has played a key role this season in terms of scoring vital goals against PSG and Chelsea, however, his time on the pitch has been limited.

The trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are our first-choice attackers. And Sturridge has claimed he was focused on the season for the Reds and not on the future while speaking to BBC Radio 1 Extra (h/t Independent

):

“I’m staying focused on right now. You’ve got to live in the present, you can never live in the future.

“I’ve been at Liverpool a long time and I’m happy too. I want to try and help bring the team some success, to win a trophy with them would be amazing.”

The Englishman was a part of the side that narrowly missed out on the title under Brendan Rodgers in 2014. It will be interesting to see how things progress this season.

Liverpool do not have an adequate backup for Roberto Firmino other than Divock Origi and Sturridge. If the latter leaves this summer, we have to sign a new striker.

The 29-year-old is possibly the best finisher in the team, but fitness issues have affected his chances of impressing the Anfield faithful and manager Jurgen Klopp in previous seasons.
