The Daily Star reports that Liverpool have made contact with Trabzonspor’s young goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.
The report claims that the Reds aren’t certain about the back-up goalkeeper’s spot next season, with the futures of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius up in the air.
Mignolet has done a great job as our No.2 this season, constantly backing the team while Karius has been away on loan at Besiktas.
The 23-year-old Turkish keeper has done well for Trabzonspor and his agent confirmed that there has been contact from the Reds.
Speaking to Ajansspor, Erdi Kirkpinar claimed there was interest from a German side too (h/t Daily Star):
“Every team have scouts and some of them are following Ugurcan’s matches. Schalke haven’t made an official offer for him.
“I know Lille and Schalke are following him. Liverpool are also interested in him. Liverpool officials have talked with us, we had some contacts, but no official offer has come from them.”
Cakir might have impressed in the Turkish league but we need to make a smart decision regarding who could be our No.2 next season.
It will be difficult to replace Alisson as the Brazilian is one of the best in the world, however, the former AS Roma man needs to have quality competition too.
Mignolet has been an excellent servant for the club and like any professional, would want to start more games. The Belgian only played the domestic cup games this season, with the Reds getting knocked out in the first round.
Karius has had an up and down season for the Turkish side but has been in great form recently.
