Liverpool FC transfer news: Mintzlaff open to selling Werner this summer
The forward was a part of the German national team that failed to perform well in the FIFA World Cup 2018, and the 23-year-old is out of a contract at the end of next season.
RB Leipzig’s CEO Oliver Mintzlaff was speaking to Sport Bild and claimed that Werner will make a decision on his future soon (h/t ESPN):
“In life, you have to make decisions. And Timo will certainly make one soon. We are convinced of it. We still wish for a contract extension.
“We’ve been talking for nearly a year now. And if there is clarity, we can focus on what happens on the pitch … it’s like that and Timo Werner would remain an important part of RB Leipzig.”
However, Mintzlaff added that Leipzig aren’t in complete control of the situation and could sell the striker this summer:
“We can only make [contract] offers.
“And if Timo does not want to prolong, we’d like to cash in on him. And there are many
interestedclubs. Alsointernational top clubs have made enquiries.”
Liverpool have two young forwards to cover for Firmino
The Reds could do with a quality forward to cover for Roberto Firmino but Divock Origi came up with the goods last season.
Rhian Brewster is also expected to do well this season, and it will be interesting to see how he performs for the first-team.
Werner is still an incredible talent who can play anywhere across the front-line and the Reds could use some cover for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane too.
The Reds should not rule out a move for the German if he is available on the cheap, but the report adds that Bayern Munich are also interested in the 23-year-old.

The Bavarians are in a rebuilding process after seeing the exits of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, and Werner would be an excellent addition to their side.
