Liverpool’s opponents for the upcoming Champions League group stage were announced as Alisson and Virgil van Dijk picked up awards for their performances last season.
The Reds were in Pot 1 and one of the top seeds after winning the Champions League last season, and they got a good group compared to the quality of teams in Pot 3 and Pot 4.
Liverpool avoided clubs such as Lyon, Lille, Atalanta and RB Leipzig in the draw and will face Napoli, RB Salzburg and Genk.
Napoli should be the toughest opponents for us and we faced them in last season’s group too. The Italians defeated us away from home but we won the all-important final group game to qualify for the knockout round in the previous campaign.
Genk should be an easy six points for us but we shouldn’t underestimate the Belgian side. Salzburg could turn out to be last season’s Red Star Belgrade and the Austrians have had Sadio Mane and Naby Keita on their books too.
It should be a great return for the African pair, but Liverpool should be confident of progressing into the next round of the competition.
The Reds had a difficult group last season with Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli in the group alongside Red Star, but we should be favourites to top the group stages this time around.
Many Liverpool fans were happy with the draw and some believed we are set for the seventh Champions League title.
