Georginio Wijnaldum claims he has a love-hate relationship with Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool are blessed with some of the best midfielders in the world but that often leads to some tough decisions for Jurgen Klopp.

Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum have all had to fight for places in the team, and one of them is often left out of the starting XI.

Wijnaldum has been excellent over the past two seasons but he has claimed that his relationship with Klopp is love-hate.

The Dutch international added that he understood Klopp’s decision is for the team’s good but admitted that being dropped for the Champions League clash against Barcelona didn’t please him (h/t Daily Star):

“With the manager it is more or less hate and love. I am sure Klopp has the best interests at heart with every player in the squad.

“But sometimes as a player, you are so intensely involved in a match and then the manager is still chasing you.

“Then you just boil over sometimes – and in my case, I do get angry with him.

“I still don’t know if what happened against Barcelona was his real plan. But that night I was so, so angry and so disappointed that he did not start me.”

Wijnaldum added that he couldn’t be sure that the result would have gone the same way had he started the game and not been brought on.

Liverpool won that clash 4-0 and reached the final where we defeated Tottenham to land a sixth Champions League crown.

Goals are lacking in Wijnaldum’s game

The Dutchman is one of the most hard-working players we have in the team, however, he should get more goals for us.

Wijnaldum has been excellent for the national side and seems to score regularly for them, and it is time he brings this element to his game when playing for the Reds.
