Liverpool sporting director Micheal Edwards remains unsold on this impressive Bundesliga star

Micheal Edwards’s stance on Kai Havertz revealed

Bundesliga sensation Kai Havertz is considered to be one of the best young players in Europe. It is natural that a player of his talents is linked with a move to the defending European champions.

According to the Evening Standard (h/t Express), Liverpool Sporting Director Michael Edwards remains unsold on the German’s talents. In spite of Jurgen Klopp being deemed as the ideal manager for the youngster’s development, Edwards is said to be unsure of breaking the bank for him.

The likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on the player as the summer transfer window nears. Havertz is likely to cost upwards of £90million

According to the report, Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for the player. The main crux of the decision could be the exorbitant fee that has been quoted. In spite of being just 19, Havertz has already made 139 caps for Leverkusen and has scored 38 goals and 30 assists. Although he could turn out to be a world-class player in the future, he is not seen as a definite starter by Liverpool.

Despite the promise shown by the player, the Reds are unwilling to spend the amount of money being asked on a player who might not be a guaranteed starter. Liverpool, however, remain keen and will continue to monitor his progress.

A required rebuild!

The Liverpool midfield has lacked imagination at times and has been far too predictable. Klopp has gradually improved certain areas of the team in his years at Liverpool. He initially built a marauding attack before fixing a porous defence.

It would be the turn of the midfield this season to finish off the set. The likes of Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum will turn 30 this year while James Milner is not getting any younger.

Naby Keita too has failed to impress consistently and it could be time for Liverpool to rebuild the midfield. Havertz is a young player and matches the profile of a player the club is interested in.

Edwards has made a number of spectacular buys in the past and should be given the benefit of the doubt regarding Havertz. It remains to be seen who Liverpool goes for if not the German.
