£41million Liverpool new boy reveals Henderson’s gesture as soon as move was confirmed

Diogo Jota speaks about settling in at Liverpool and how a message from Jordan Henderson helped him join the Reds

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic (h/t Mirror), new signing Diogo Jota spoke about his initial weeks in the Liverpool dressing room and how a text message from Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson made the move easier for him.

Diogo Jota joined the reigning Premier League champions in the summer for a £41million fee (rising to £45million) from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Jota has impressed immensely since the start of the 2020/21 season, scoring 9 times in 15 appearances for the club.

Speaking about his relationship with his new manager, Jota praised Jurgen Klopp’s management and said that it was down to him to prove himself to the German.

“..It was up to me to find a way to get into the team and not the opposite. That’s what I did with the help of Jurgen. He’s a fantastic manager who took care of me. When I first arrived, he had a meeting with me and he explained how the team works. Then it’s down to the player to try to learn as fast as you can and to prove to the manager that you can be an important player for him on the field.”

Jota also revealed that a text message from Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson helped calm his nerves before his big move to Anfield.

“Liverpool have a great squad and the captain Jordan Henderson was an important guy for me. He sent me a text message as soon as I knew I was signing for Liverpool and he has helped me.”

The Portuguese went on to show his appreciation for the diversity at the club, as he explained how the players who spoke his native tongue made him settle in well in the dressing room.

“The Brazilian players speak the same language so people like Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Ali (Alisson) have helped a lot too. Adrian too as I can speak Spanish as well. We have such a good team and that’s the basis for success.”

Liverpool are back in action in this weekend as the Reds take on Jota’s former side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield. Jota would be hoping for his 10th start of the season as Premier League football enters the month of December.
