A report by Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Metro) mentions that Chelsea are the latest club to show interest in signing Liverpool midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Dutch midfielder is set to be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. His contract runs out in the summer and he has failed to reach an agreement with the club over a new deal.
This development has seen several clubs circle around the 30-year-old midfielder, with Barcelona leading the race. Ronald Koeman is eager for a reunion with a midfielder he has already managed during his time as The Netherlands’ manager.
The report
also claims that Barcelona have offered the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder a three-year contract. But now, Chelsea are also in the running. As for Wijnaldum, he claimed last week that his future at Liverpool is still undecided despite links with a number of top clubs.
“You will always talk about those things and about my future. But as I have said on other occasions, I have no news yet. When there is news, I will talk about it, but there is no news.”
There is no shortage of suitors for Wijnaldum. Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and Serie A duo Inter Milan and Juventus are also in the running for the midfielder. (h/t Metro)
As for the Reds, they would be hoping that Gini still puts pen to paper on a new deal. But with time slowly ticking away and the summer transfer window approaching, it is perhaps pragmatic to start thinking of replacements.
Aaron Ramsey is one name that has been touted in that regard and it would be wise of Jurgen Klopp to replace Wijnaldum with a midfielder of equal or more quality.
